As an artist I work in varied media, but always considers myself to come from the perspective of a sculptor. I am interested in materials, and how our relationship to them can describe something of the nature of our existence. For this reason I have long used materials that not only can be worked with in various states (powder, liquid and solid) but also might also be recognised from other contexts. I am drawn to the everyday materials that we might see on the street or in building sites but also those found in domestic settings. These are employed in conjunction with the more traditional sculptural materials of plaster, clay, wood and cement. I have always been interested in how our engagement with materials and matter affects us both physically and emotionally. I work to describe something of our human experience and existence through the way I handle materials and make objects.
